I read about Khan Academy on the Zite app the other day and I got myself looking at it and getting my little sister into it. It’s really interesting on how this is life changing. It is changing the way teachers are teaching in class and the realisation that the old approach does not work with everyone. It’s making possible a free education to those that are unable to afford it or unable to go to school but can still learn. How is learning different than picking up a book and reading it? Watching something shown to you in a video allows better visualization of a step by step approach. Reading a book you can just scan it and look for particular information that is more relevant to you. In a way both channels has its pros and cons. Khan Academy has many topics ranging from maths to science to finance. The site is easy to learn and one can easily participate by using their google account or facebook social media account. The site being true to analytics, they even provide mapping on your learning patterns and tools to coach one’s personal development. They have included a gaming mechanism with badges in achievements too. Take a pledge to continue learning at your own pace and time and see whether it may trigger your interests.
The Invisible Shield by Zagg for the iPad 2 is a pricey screen protector which ranges from US $30 till US $40 depending on which one you want to buy. I got myself the front screen protector which costs US$32.60 inclusive of tax from Best Buy but in my opinion it’s an investment that one needs to make if they buy any gadget(s). One lesson I have learnt is that it’s very important to at least protect your device safe. Compared to other screen protectors that I have put on my different devices, my camera, my iPhone this protector is a bit easier to put on the device. It doesn’t have the matte finish that I have on my iPhone but I have found that the matte finish causes slight color diffusion displaying the screen colors but it is so slight, it’s not such a big deal. Apparently though with this screen protector by zagg, the small air pockets if you do end up with, they will sort out by itself in a few couple of days. I ain’t sure how true that is but I hope so. It’s a DIY job and I do suggest to have 2 people work on it together. Hope those that do get it, enjoy it as much I am with it now.
My friend just got herself the Acer Aspire One that runs an Atom Intel Chip and knowing me loving new gadgets I started to surf youtube looking at people’s reviews. Like always I like to explore the opportunity of upgrading RAM DIY style since it costs probably $50 (approximate figure) in service fees in Singapore to get it installed for me while I could probably do it on my own and save the $50.
The Acer Aspire One like all mini laptops is rather small. It looks pretty good for a lightweight highly portable work laptop when you are on the go. I won’t go on to list the disadvantages of big versus small laptops but of course if you have big fingers and don’t like small screens you shouldn’t complain.
Any person who deals or who dealt with electronic goods can tell you that the smaller the equipment is, the more fragile the parts can be. The Acer Aspire One runs on Linux and the interface that comes along with it is open source and it boots up fairly quickly compared to the competitors. Of course the interface can be altered and changed but those that are not computer literate be warned that this could void the warranty of the equipment if you decide to make changes to it. Just check it out first before you go modifying anything.
I will be comparing installing of RAM to the EEE PC. Usually with any bigger type of laptop and EEE PC, you can upgrade the RAM by opening a back slot at the back of the laptop and just inputting the new RAM from there. Usually takes about 4 screws out at most just to get it done (Macbook is different and requires to go through removing the battery first). As for the Acer Aspire One, it’s a mission to actually get it upgraded and requires delicate fingers not to short circuit or ruin any of the hardware parts. There’s alot of removing including the keyboard as such. Below zaperbaby from youtube was kind enough to post his mission in installing of the RAM. Truthfully just watching the clip made me think whether it was worth getting this laptop even though the specs of it is good enough as a mini laptop. However, I guess if you do consider buying this gadget, please do consider for a requested upgrade of RAM rather than you decide to do a DIY. Again I totally agree with zaperbaby, how come they never thought of cutting a slot at the back of the laptop for easy access? What happens if the RAM is fried and I need to replace it? I guess it would just a necessary procedure if that is the case.
No it isn’t really that hard right? Just need the right cable and plug it in from the CPU to the TV monitor… The problem is (wait for it…) what is the right cable? *gives the shock face look* This is what really is funny, because I am from Commerce IT, people expect me to know about these things. Truth be told, I am a newbie in hardware as well! Wouldn’t have a clue and manufacturers now a days make everything dummy proof right so they have cable colors so the user can match that. But after reading two articles about it, you apparently need to read your motherboard’s manual!
Ok for those that don’t know what your motherboard is… it’s this electrical piece that is in your CPU that connects to all these components so that the power supply can give it power to run all these hardware attached to it (hardware is like your CD/DVD Rom/Drive, hard disk (where you save all your files, etc).
So in my case after reading the manual, I find out my MSI board (MSI is a type of brand like Intel) has a VGA (Video Graphics Array) port. But I need to know if my VGA card supports TV out directly through this VGA port function. VGA is a standard for graphics display system so that is why the monitor cable is connected to the VGA port. So my next step is to find about this cable… I thought it was suppose to be really simple?
So those that know me… I like to surf randomly at sites and read about stories about IT topics and seriously, I am always lagging behind so in coming across Kirk Allen Evan’s blog, one of the links dragged me to another site to learn about ASP.NET. Why didn’t I get this link before when I had my project due!! Well those that want to learn a bit more about ASP.NET click on the link. For now… I am going to watch their tutorials. Hey… no harm just listening right?
Remember to backup previous HTML templates just incase you don’t like changes that you’ve made and you want to use what you had before.
Was quite easy for me and it required me playing around and refreshing the page a lot. Have fun if you want to try it yourself… the inserting was way better than copy and paste for me because I had too much added function code in the HTML already.
I am not a computer expert but I know that to keep something longer than its life span, you need to do consistent maintenance. Wouldn’t you agree? So I am going to give a few pointers today in what you may want to do about it… But I must warn you that doing all these things is 1) time consuming, 2) things may happen that may go wrong…
Take note: I will not take responsibility of any PCs crashing and etc etc if it ever happens to you while you follow any of my instructions doing updates. This is just some things that the user should do to make sure the computer is running smoothly. Click on “more” if you want to read more.
Remember the dilemma I am having? Alright if you don’t already know I had a slight dilemma running Visual Studio on a MacBook laptop. For those that do not know, Visual Studio only runs on Microsoft. It took me the whole half day reformating my laptop, updating tiger operating systems, installing boot camp beta, installing windows xp pro, updating it, installing AVG… I still haven’t installed Visual Studio 2005 mind you. Currently my AVG is stuck at 21% trying to download all the updates that I have missed. Sad that I am sitting here imagining the possibilities of maybe the snail trail left by my AVG updater can miraculously double up in speed. Maybe if I did 100 sit ups it will be done when I am finished… worth a try I guess…
