Bootcamp Out, VMware Fusion In

8 05 2008

So those that are using Mac and are using the older operating system Tiger Mac OS X version 10.4.11, we no longer can use the bootcamp beta version since Dec 2007. I know what you must be thinking. What took me so long to blog about this right? Well seriously I didn’t know that I couldn’t use the bootcamp beta version until when I wanted to uninstall it and then that was horror because I had to reverse the time clock just to uninstall the partition. And then I had to source for other alternatives. Now I use VMware Fusion and might I add, I feel like a geek!

Installed and working and I am running a Windows XP Professional on top of a Mac OS X. And they say that rivalries can’t work hand in hand. I am starting to run Visual Studio 2005 on it and it does lag quite a bit with 1 Gig RAM for running the virtual machine. There are other 3rd party software that can be used such as Parallel. I haven’t tried other alternatives but they should work right? As for now, I am quite happy with using VMware Fusion.

Don’t Sweat It

Here is more of the hand action to Daft Punk… seriously… imagine the hands sweating… the words would run right? Typical of me to think of the insignificant stuff…

Daft Punk – Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

17 12 2007

I saw this from SkyBambi’s blog and I thought to make a comment on my blog. It’s a major work out and to get it to synchronize with the music like that ain’t no easy task. Below are the clips for you to view both taken from youtube to the same song. Would you have ever thought of this on your own?

When Will Speed Be Enough?

29 10 2007

I ain’t talking about car racing although F1 might be happening in Singapore (I think it’s still uncomfirmed?) Don’t take my word on that though. I ain’t talking about illegal substances either that are used to assist in one to have fun and stay awake or perhaps to lose weight. But… I am however talking about “speed” in technology for broadband for internet usage (data and voice).

I read this article released on 23 October 2007 by The University of Melbourne at the following link: http://uninews.unimelb.edu.au/articleid_4705.html

It discusses how Dr John Papandriopoulos was presented a prize for developing technology that could make broadband 100 times faster than it currently is. This is amazing since currently fibre optics are used to obtain these kind of speeds. Now having this man discover this technology just goes beyond what can be achieved. But when does one draw the line?

When will it be fast enough that the demand of “I want it faster” be no longer insisted? Sometimes I wonder…

Connecting The Kids with XO

9 10 2007

I read about the XO laptop on NoNick’s blog . To see how it looks like either click on the first link that takes you to the main website or NoNick’s blog where you can read where she blogged about it.

Can you just imagine all the kids in the whole world can be connected through the Internet? Some might be telling me, “The whole world is already connected” but now… now you’ve got kids from third world countries who have the possibility of getting this luxury that other kids in US, Australia, Singapore, etc have. It’s taking a step towards sharing information, knowledge. It may not be the strongest machine in the world, but it’s sufficient for kids. It can get particular areas to get connected and the resources needed to charge it is the use of solar energy and even hand pulling energy or the use of car battery.

If you are interested in knowing more about it, you can read an article written by M. Tim Jones at the IBM website here. There’s also a competitor against the XO laptop called the Classmate PC. You can read about it here.

See Through Frogs

1 10 2007

Do you ever remember biology class in high school? You pin the poor frog on the board and they gave you a scalpel to dissect the slimey animal… Like a show from CSI when they are doing an autopsy. You will find me in the toilet spilling my guts out and learning more about my system than the frog’s.

Then the Japanese did the most amazing thing. See Through FROGS! Why didn’t I think of that? Read here to get a look at it from Yahoo written by Miwa Suzuki.

I guess the most gruesome thing is having the frogs get injected with cancer cells and like learn from the frog how the cancer spreads. Deep down I can’t help but feel sorry for the creature but hey it’s better than taking that knife and killing it… or is it the same thing? Both are suffering yet they are being used to help others for testing purposes. Then the question becomes a bigger issue such as is forming genetic mutated animals for testing purposes, is this cruel? What do you think?

HD – High Definition

23 09 2007

It has taken Singapore by storm. Ok maybe not but it has been advertising on tv with Utt and other stars on the local channels. High definition is a video format whereby the video and audio quality is far more clearer and better than the previous formats without HD slapped onto it.

HD gives a better viewing experience giving a more real life clarity in the images shown. No longer will you suffer from big pixels of images but high resolution images. Gaming, movies and home made videos are now made as if you are really there.

Singaporeans are the lucky batch to be the first country leading the way with HD in Asia since they are the first ones to introduce this technology to the public. You can have the real life experience by watching a documentary and have the feeling of being there while sitting in your living room sofa! Or would you prefer to have things recorded in your hand using a HD camcorder making it an unforgettable experience! :)

WAIT FOR ME SONY ERICSSON K850i

23 09 2007

I like gadgets but my pocket and financial status doesn’t allow this kind of luxury. So currently I still lag behind technology and only have a camera-free phone and own one of those cameras still running on film which I got when I was 10 years old. Yes I know nowadays we use digital… *gives evils*

I have to admit though, lately I have had tendencies to get a new phone with a camera to give my blog some justice in having nice pictures to show you all. Ok maybe not nice pictures… since my photography skills are just nilch. You know what they say, “A picture speaks a thousand words” and gives a better perspective in certain topics.

I have my eye on the coming soon sony ericsson phone K850i. 5 megapixel camera. High resolution phone. Memory expandable. 3G phone allowing internet, video call, etc. There are music functions and games. It comes with two colors luminous green or the velvet blue. Check it out!! If only I had extra cash on the side… IF ONLY

When Everything You Thought Is So Right

22 09 2007

I haven’t really interacted with the world too much so up to date news and such things has not been one of my strengths let alone the IT industry. Since I have just recently shifted from my old blog to this blog, most of my posts have not been any repeated posts however I have decided to rewrite a post about this one.

Recently I had the opportunity given by Singapore Jobstreet.com to attend a seminar called Empowering Digital Life. I am not being paid by them!! However I must say I really did enjoy myself and commend them for how they held the event. Sorry there will be no pictures posted because I don’t have a camera… and don’t say use my phone’s camera because my phone has no camera either. *Embarrassed*

So this seminar which talked about Microsoft’s new products and how to use certain software targeting at IT professionals and IT developers really opened my eyes as a student. You know they how they say you can learn so much more in the industry hands on compared to the terminology, knowledge from books? Well I can tell you now that it can be seen much more obviously in the IT industry.

So like I said before… the software that impressed me the most was Microsoft’s Live Lab Photosynth. Google it! I am not asking anymore… I AM DEMANDING IT! When you have the chance to read up on it, the idea, the concept of it by Ted is just… totally awesome. (Watch the youtube below!!)

Totally awesome right? But SA and SH didn’t think so. I thought it’s a great milestone for technology advancement. But hey… everybody has their own perspective of this. What’s yours?
